The ICGA 2007
convention was held at the Radisson Hotel,
airport, Indianapolis, IN, on July 17 - 21,
2007. The Tuesday Early Bird get together was a
wonderful Italian pasta surprise. The servers
kept the dishes full throughout the meal.
Thanks, ICGA!
Wednesday, July
18, 2007, was a full day of activities starting
with Fred Stone’s breakfast seminar. Good job,
Fred! The first Board meeting was at 9:00 a.m.
followed by registration. A different kind of
seminar was presented at 2:00 p.m. This featured
three couples and was titled “Carnival Glass
with Your Spouse.” Brian Pitman questioned each
of the couples individually and together about
their motivations in collecting. It ran the
gamut from high emotions to a nose bleed! The
evening special was the Ice Cream Party with
very good ice cream and toppings. Along with
this activity Ramsey Gross and Hailey Van Natta
talked about their collections. Ramsey showed
glass that she owns plus some that her brother,
Ryan, owns. Hailey was a bit bashful, but cute.
We liked this new feature.
Thursday’s
breakfast seminar was presented by Janet
Knechtel who always does a nice job.
Registration started at 10:00 a.m. and the
luncheon business meeting was at noon. The
afternoon seminar was another unique one
featuring Jim Seeck, Jack Targonski, Bruce Hill,
and Tom Mordini talking about “The Business of
Carnival Glass.” Again, Brian Pitman asked
leading questions and one or more of the
panelists responded. This was a very
enlightening seminar.
Friday, July
20, 2007, started with another breakfast
seminar, this one by Rocky Van Vatta. (It
was good to have Rocky talk and get to know him
a little better.) A Board meeting followed and
then another seminar at 11:00 a.m. featuring
Aaron Hurst who talked on “Carnival Glass Across
Different Social Backgrounds.” Aaron showed us
beautiful glass and was a very entertaining
speaker. The Seeck auction preview was at 3:00
p.m. and the banquet followed at 7:00 p.m. The
buffet food was very good, especially the
dessert table!
Lee Markley
presented the awards which were as follows:
Membership
- Don and Barb Chamberlain
Distance - Richard and Barbara Thorne
Displays:
Fifth place - Stacy and Des Wills
Fourth place - Reg and Linda Dunham
Third place - Gale Eichhorst
Second place - Larry and Mary Helen Yung,
Sr.
First place - Roger and Cathy Dunham
Don Chamberlain
presented awards to the Scavenger Hunt winners.
The winners were: Ramsey Gross, Hailey Van
Natta, and Loretta Nielsen.
Brian thanked
everyone who took part in the convention and
helped make it a success, and made
announcements. Eunice Booker installed the newly
elected officers.
We eagerly
awaited the banquet talk by Emmett and Dorothy
Morgan from Texas. They had a wonderful display
of glass and told about purchasing each piece
and from whom it was purchased. It was a
different approach and very interesting. Thanks,
Emmett and Dorothy.
This,
basically, closed the convention. But it wasn’t
really over yet. Saturday everyone was up early,
but not for a breakfast seminar. They were up to
go to the Seeck Auction which would start at
9:30 a.m. For a complete auction report
